Annual St. Patrick's Day Celebration to be Held on Saturday, March 13, 2010

The Belle Plaine St. Patrick's Celebration Committee is happy to announce the annual church-attending, parade-going, bag-pipe-playing, and being-Irish-for-the-day celebrating will happen on Saturday, March 13, 2010.

The festivities begin with 12:00 p.m. church service at Our Lady of the Prairie Catholic Church. The 38th annual parade, with many local Irish clans, will lineup outside the Church at 12:45 p.m. The parade route begins at the rear of the Church on State Street East. It will head west to North Meridan Street. Once on Meridian Street, the clans will head south to the interesection of Main and Meridian. This year's parade will be lead by three Irish sisters as Grand Marshals.They are the Fahey sisters: Ruth Effertz, Dorothy Bartels and Theresa Renne.

The emcee for the post-parade program is Donny O'Brien, Jr. Miss Shamrock and her court will be crowned during this program. There are four young Irish lassis wishing to be the ambassador. May the "Luck o' the Irish" be with Lexi Bahr, Maura Flaherty, Paige Meger and Brooke Moylan.

The festivities will then continue with many of the local taverns and street vendors offering specials for the day, evening and into the wee hours "o' the mornin'." So whether you and your clan hail from the Emerald Isle or you are just Irish for the day, please join in all of the fesitivies in Belle Plaine.

"Mayor's Office Hours"

Every first Thursday of the month from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Mayor Tim Lies will be available to hear the concerns, questions and needs from the Belle Plaine residents. If you wish to visit with Mayor Lies, please come through the front doors of the the Government Center where he will meet you. If you are unable to come during the set hours you can schedule an appointment by calling 952-873-5553, ask for the Mayor's extension and leave a message with your requested time to meet.
