GreenStep Cities

Belle Plaine is a Minnesota GreenSteps City

The City of Belle Plaine has been participating in the Minnesota GreenSteps Cities program since February of 2016. Minnesota GreenStep Cities is a voluntary challenge, assistance and recognition program to help cities achieve their sustainability and quality-of-life goals. This free continuous improvement program, managed by a public-private partnership, is based upon 29 best practices. Categories include: Buildings & Lighting, Transportation, Land Use, Environmental Management, and Economic & Community Development. Each best practice can be implemented by completing one or more actions at a 1, 2 or 3-star level, from a list of four to eight actions. These actions are tailored to all Minnesota cities, focus on cost savings and energy use reduction, and encourage civic innovation.

There are 122 cities and tribal nations across Minnesota who are participating in the challenge. As one of these cities, Belle Plaine is helping to lead the way in sustainability in Minnesota. Actions that Belle Plaine have taken are focused on cost savings, energy use reduction, resource conservation, and encouragement of civic innovation.

Belle Plaine received recognition for achieving Step 3 on June 21, 2018. This recognition shows community members and other cities across Minnesota that the City is taking great steps in the direction of energy and resource conservation and innovation. Press release.
