Hints to help you on Election Day

  • Polls open at 7am and close at 8pm on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
  • Register before October 16!  This will save you a lot of time on Election Day!   Otherwise you will need to register at the polls and provide proof of your residence on Election Day.  You will need valid photo identification along with proof of your current residence with the last 30 days.  See http://www.sos.state.mn.us/index.aspx?page=134 for a list of documents that you will need to bring.  Also use this website if you are not sure if or where you are registered.
  • If you question where you go vote, see http://pollfinder.sos.state.mn.us/  to verify your polling place.  City residents living inside the city limits vote in the City Council Chambers at City Hall 218 Meridian Street North.
  • When you walk in the door on Election Day ask the Election Judge at the door where you should go, this will save you time from standing in a wrong line.
  • You may view the ballot ahead of time by going to http://myballotmn.sos.state.mn.us/
  • Before coming to the polls understand the two constitutional amendments that will be on the ballot.  As the ballot will state “Failure to vote on a constitutional amendment will have the same effect as voting no on the amendment.”  See http://www.sos.state.mn.us/index.aspx?page=1719  for information on the amendments.

Please remember in the polling place cell phones need to be off and put away. It is illegal to wear any clothing, buttons or other attire bearing candidate names or partisan references into a polling place. (Minnesota Statutes, section 211B.11) Candidate names and logos are political insignia and are prohibited.  Also, no stickers can be placed on the ballot. No one can gather or linger inside the polls or within 100 feet outside of the polls.  Please remember the Election Judges are there to assist and ensure the integrity of the election process.  Please respect their duties and requests.   If you have question or comments regarding this you may contact to Dawn Meyer or Amy Jirik at City Hall 952-873-5553.

Absentee Voting

If you can’t make it to the polls on Election Day and meet the criteria for absentee voting, you can vote by absentee ballot.  Absentee voting can be done now at Scott County. You may vote in person at the Scott County Government Center, Elections Department, Room GC102. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They are also open the Saturday before the election, November 3, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

If you have more questions, the MN Secretary of State Website http://www.sos.state.mn.us  has all this information.
