PRIMARY ELECTION 2012
The City of Belle Plaine has established a primary election system. A city resolution adopted on February 19, 2008, in accordance with Minnesota State Statute 205.065, outlines the requirements of a municipal primary election. A primary election will be held when more than twice the number of candidates file for office than the number of seats open for election. If less than twice the number of candidates file than the number of seats open for election, then the candidates’ names would not appear on the primary ballot.
The municipal primary will be held on the same day as the national primary election, which is the first Tuesday after the second Monday in August of any year in which a municipal general election is to be held for the purpose of electing officers. All municipal, state and national elections are held at the Belle Plaine Government Center, 218 North Meridian Street, Belle Plaine.
It is extremely important that voters get out to vote at the primary election in order for their candidate to be nominated. Only the primary voters will have a voice in the final candidates for the open seats. Watch for more updates and reminders as candidate filing and the 2012 election nears.
GENERAL ELECTION 2012
The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
