A primary responsibility of local government is to ensure the safety of the community. In the City of Belle Plaine, protection is provided through three Public Safety divisions. These include a contracted ambulance service, full-time police department and a volunteer fire department. During an emergency, all can be contacted through the dialing of three easy numbers: 9-1-1. The Scott County Sheriff's Department handles the dispatching of ambulance, fire and police personnel to the scenes of all emergencies in Belle Plaine.
