The Belle Plaine Fire Department has been serving the City of Belle Plaine and surrounding townships since 1894. The department has a rich history of public service. The current roster is made up of 30 members, nearly half of whom are certified First Responders, who dedicate their time to make the community a safe place for all. The members are all on call and respond in the event of an emergency from home or work. The response time averages three to five minutes to all properties within the City limits.
The members also commit a tremendous amount of time every year to fundraising activities that support various equipment purchases. These activities include an annual fish fry, motorcycle rally and street dance.
The membership is also very proactive in fire education throughout the local elementary schools, Boy and Girl Scout programs and numerous other civic organizations. This involves many volunteer hours by the members to make this possible.
The department has very modern equipment and an on-going equipment replacement program with the support of the city and rural fire protection associations, which keep equipment very current and up-to-date.
