Bar-b-q days

Please join the Chamber of Commerce and the Belle Plaine Community for our 52nd Annual BBQ Days Celebration on July 16, 17 and 18, 2010! It is one of the greatest town festivals in Minnesota. Our success is due to the incredible number of volunteers.
Bar-B-Q Days started its celebration in 1959, whre the Chamber voted to sponsor the celebration and gave it the name it still has today. Since 1959, it is estimated that a total of over 270,000 pounds of roast beef has been prepared for the event. The first year, 800 pounds of beef was roasted and they had 50 pounds left over. Today, we prepare NO LESS than 7,000 pounds of beef; enough to make about 18,000 beef sandwiches. That's a lot of beef!
The biggest change that Bar-B-Q Days encountered was the relocation of the event from downtown Belle Plaine to South Park. With this change, the number of people attending the event has increased over the years. This is amazing, considering thta the event has never been advertised in metro newspapers. Word of mouth brings the people here.
Another drawing fact for people to come to Bar-B-Q Days, are the reunions. People still have strong roots to Belle Plaine. No matter where they end up living, they always seem to come back for the town celebration.
The majority of the profits generated by Bar-B-Q Days are donated to community projects in Belle Plaine. Currently, we are giving monies to the city pool for renovations and upgrades.
There are many reasons to joinin the festivities: carnival rides, beef sandwiches, beer garden, parade and the queen coronation, just to name a few. The entire celebration ends with a spectacular fireworks display at the baseball field on Sunday evening.
Bar-B-Q Days is a time for families and friends to get together and celebrate a long-standing Belle Plaine tradition. If you need further information on becoming involved with the Bar-B-Q Days community-wide fund raiser, please contact General Chairman, Karl R. Kolden at 952-873-6227.
